Nordea believes that a recovery within the shipping industry’s three major segments, bulk, tanker, and container, will commence in 2014. Thereby, the financial crisis of the last several years could by all accounts be over, helped along by a sharp decline in the number of new orders as well as the global growth, including not least the European growth, which will pull the economy forward.
Nordea follows the market extremely close. As one of the world’s major shipping banks with activities in shipping and offshore of 13 billion Euros, Nordea is involved in business that ranges from the restructuring of Torm to loans to Scorpio and helping to solve the serious crisis in OSG. However, the bank has managed to secure a surplus on its shipping activities in the last four years, during which the crisis has affected many customers adversely. Contrary to the announcements made by other major European banks, Nordea has no plans to withdraw from shipping.
